GenCon, Day 2Day 2 is over. Looooong day.
Spent the first half manning the booth - due to my more recent immersion into Shadowrun, I've become quite adept at selling the game. I think I answered more questions about Shadowrun than I did Battletech, which was probably a good thing. Most BT fans end up standing around the booth yipping about how this sucks, this is ok, why don't you do this, etc. Believe me, people - it gets boring and then annoying.
After a quick lunch with Oystein, Herb and Andreas, it was time to nap. Then, shop. I found that I just wasn't interested in most of the games offered this year. And I withheld from buying minatures (save 2) because honestly, I have nearly 100 still needing assembled, much less painted - and I've got a crapload more that need painted. I did buy a Shadow vessel and a Warlock cruiser, however, from IWM. Simply because I love those designs.
So after my shopping walk (I bought some stuff for friends who gave me a shopping list), I spent the next two hours photographing the diorama. Because we're changing it for tomorrow, I needed to shoot the photos of the display today. Working a tripod and 300mm zoom isn't easy on a crowded convention floor, but I managed over 100 shots that really captured the mood of the display. You can see the better ones below.
Next came an enjoyable dinner with Patrick, Oystein, Andreas and Herb, followed by attending the Star Wars: Clone Wars showing at 10 p.m. I'll say this for the movie - I haven't laughed that hard nor been that appalled at a SW flick, ever. I was horrifyingly embarassed by a lot of it, pissed at the numerous "breaks" of the written canon, and had stomach cramps from laughing so hard at other bits. Good thing I went with a group of friends (about 20); we had a grand old time laughing and cracking up throughout the movie. If I'd seen it by myself or with M, I would've been ... angry beyond reason.
Finally, the year-long gear-up to our surprise is nearly over. We kicked off a major announcement with some...hilarious theatrics before dinner, all prepping for a 10 a.m. announcement. It's one of the best-kept secrets we've managed to pull off and I'll be relieved and amused that finally it'll be released. Holding my tongue for the better part of a year has been extremely difficult, especially on the CBT forums.
And now, diorama porn. Enjoy. This is the calm before the storm tomorrow, and I'm going to enjoy every single moment.
