SYU-6B SHA YU

Mass: 40 tons
Chassis: Hellespont Type T Endo Steel
Power Plant: VOX 280 XL
Cruising Speed: 76 kph
Maximum Speed: 119 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Hellespont Lite Stealth
Armament: 2 Ceres Arms Thrasher Snub-Nose Particle Projection Cannons
2 Diverse Optics Type 2 Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: Hellespont ’Mech Works
Primary Factory: Sian
Communications System: Ceres Metals Model 666 with Guardian ECM Suite
Targeting & Tracking System: Apple Churchill 2000

CCAF doctrine has always called for the deployment of the Sha Yu in lance-sized or larger elements whenever possible. In the two decades since its first deployment, enemies of the Confederation have come to fear the all too common ambushes by groups of Sha Yus, and the deadly artillery barrages they often herald. Fast and stealthy, the Sha Yu is an almost perfect forward observation vehicle, but at forty tons, its actual armament is limited.
Seeking to improve the Sha Yu’s direct combat capabilities, Ceres Metals developed the SYU-6B variant in 3070. The 6B variant replaces the original’s large lasers with the new Ceres Arms Thrasher Snub-Nosed Particle Cannon. The optimum range of these weapons is significantly longer than that of most others, allowing the SYU-6B to strike accurately from distances where return fire is suffering negative effects from the Sha Yu’s stealth systems.
The installation of these larger weapons required the removal of the target acquisition gear and one heat sink. As a result, the CCAF has mandated that the SYU-6B be fielded in mixed-lances with the SYU-2B or other TAG-carrying units to preserve the artillery spotter capabilities of their “shark packs”.

B3-HND BLOODHOUND

Mass: 45 tons
Chassis: Earthwerks PXH IV Endo Steel
Power Plant: Hermes 315 XL
Cruising Speed: 76 kph
Maximum Speed: 119 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Durallex Light with CASE
Armament: 4 FlameTech Lavalanche ER Flamers
2 Diverse Optics Medium Pulse Lasers
1 Keystone Industrials Fluid Gun
1 Earthwerks Toadkiller B-Pod
Manufacturer: Earthwerks Incorporated
Primary Factory: Keystone
Communications System: Neil 7000
Targeting & Tracking System: Octagon Tartrac System E with Beagle Active Probe

Ostensibly designed for counter-insurgency work, Earthwerks executives became worried as production neared that the Bloodhound would prove too specialized to ensure wide sales. They thus insisted it also be able to handle itself on the battlefield against vehicles and other ’Mechs. The final result was a unit far faster than required and ineffective against the targets it was originally designed to face. Reasonably effective as a fast scout (if somewhat expensive), it failed miserably at its intended task.
In 3081, with civil order across the Free Worlds League crumbling, Earthwerks thought the time was right to return to the drawing board. Retooling to swap in a smaller engine was not economically viable, and attempts to secure a reliable source of Bloodhound active probes failed, but the weapons were completely overhauled. Four new extended-range flamers gave the B3 a devastating anti-infantry capability, while the extended-range lasers were replaced by a pair of medium pulse models, the better to hit nimble battle armor suits. A single b-pod offers a modicum of anti-swarming defense.
The most unusual change was the addition of a fluid gun. Typically loaded with industrial-strength defoliants, it can also handle flame-retardant and crowd-control agents for riot-control scenarios.

BLF-40 BLUE FLAME

Mass: 45 tons
Chassis: Dennenbach-Mitchell Series 8 Endo Steel
Power Plant: VOX 225 Light
Cruising Speed: 54 kph
Maximum Speed: 86 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: StarSlab/2
Armament: 3 Moscovia Light Particle Projection Cannons
1 Blankenburg Medium Variable-Speed Pulse Laser
Manufacturer: Mitchell Vehicles
Primary Factory: North America, Terra
Communications System: Dornman Echo IV with C3i Computer
Targeting & Tracking System: Master’s Sight 1-Omega

Most designs unique to the Word of Blake wound up with one or more variants that served primarily with the Word’s elite Shadow Divisions: the Blue Flame was no exception. The original Blue Flame, the -21, was primarily a ranged ’Mech, with a modicum of short-range support in the form of a trio of Hovertec Streak-2 launchers. The -40 variant—first spotted in the Fifty-second Shadow Division’s eradication of the Martian Cuirassiers in April 3073—eschewed almost all close-in support in order to become an even more dedicated sniper.
The two extended-range large lasers were traded away for a trio of Moscovia light PPCs, tied to a potent targeting computer. The Streak launchers were removed entirely, eliminating any danger from ammo explosions. Remaining for defense was only a rear-firing single medium VSP laser: a clear attempt to address the traditional weakness of quad ’Mechs. Given how the -40 was typically employed—operating at a distance from the fight while its comrades fed it C3i targeting and telemetry data—even this was probably a waste.

HSN-10SR HELLSPAWN

Mass: 45 tons
Chassis: GM Fury-M Endo Steel
Power Plant: GM 270 XL
Cruising Speed: 65 kph
Maximum Speed: 97 kph
Jump Jets: GM StarLift
Jump Capacity: 240 meters
Armor: StarGuard III
Armament: 2 Johnston Lite Light Particle Projection Cannons
2 RAMTech 1500Z Extended Range Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: General Motors
Primary Factory: Talcott
Communications System: Dalban SuperMicronics with Guardian ECM Suite
Targeting & Tracking System: Dalban HiRez with Beagle Active Probe and TAG

General Motors’ Talcott factory has been highly profitable thanks to its prolific battle armor production, but the facility’s meager BattleMech manufacturing has floundered. Hoped to overtake the Dervish as the AFFS’s medium fire support ’Mech of choice, the Hellspawn ultimately proved unpopular with rank and file MechWarriors. Achernar responded to the competition with revamped variants of the Dervish, and sales of the Hellspawn dropped precipitously. Few mourned when Blakist raiders damaged the ’Mech’s myomer spooling lines, ending production.
The shrinking post-Jihad military market forced GM to reassess their product line, resulting in the Hellspawn’s surprising return, albeit with a new mission role. Production of the highly specialized BJ-4 Blackjack was discontinued, its line converted to produce the HSN-10SR. Billed as the “Stealth replacement”, the new Hellspawn foregoes the previous variant’s missile launchers in favor of more sensors. Able to leap 240 meters thanks to advanced jump jets, the HSN-10SR is significantly more maneuverable than the old STH-2D, and carries more EW gear. This repurposing of the ’Mech has proven successful, with the Hellspawn filling holes in recon units throughout the AFFS. GM also produces a limited number of HSN-10Gs, initially a Jihad-era refit that traded LRMs for flexible MML-7s.

TSN-C3M TESSEN

Mass: 50 tons
Chassis: TSN Endo Steel
Power Plant: Vlar 300 XL
Cruising Speed: 64 kph
Maximum Speed: 97 kph, 129 kph with MASC
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Durallex Ferro Fibrous
Armament: 1 Lord’s Light 2 Extended Range Particle Projection Cannon
1 Lord’s Light 5 Snub-Nose Particle Projection Cannon
1 Diverse Optics 10P Small Pulse Laser
Manufacturer: Independence Weaponry
Primary Factory: Quentin
Communications System: Garret T-22 with C3 Master Computer
Targeting & Tracking System: Garret D2j (I)

When introduced, the Tessen was a marvel of electronic warfare, deploying the new iNarc system to great effect. Yet its specialization as an iNarc platform left the medium ’Mech with the armament of a design 20 tons lighter, making it unsuitable for roles which could otherwise be filled by the fast, solid BattleMech. Further, its relatively widespread deployment became a logistical burden for the DCMS, as many regiments struggled to secure enough iNarc pods to keep the Tessen fully supplied. The Jihad exacerbated supply shortages, leading many technicians to strip out the Tessen’s iNarc launcher and attempt to replace it with one of the Combine’s new particle cannons that were growing widespread early in the conflict.
Upon Quentin’s recapture in 3077, Independence began producing a new model Tessen that featured a Snub Nose PPC instead of the iNarc. Other previously proposed upgrades were also implemented, such as the addition of MASC to boost the Tessen’s striking speed. Without the need to carry iNarc ammunition, there was enough room to fully upgrade the C3 slave unit to a master module. More committed than ever to C³ technology, the DCMS more than pleased with the new configuration.
Ultimately, Quentin was ceded to the new-born Republic of the Sphere. As part of this agreement, 60% of Tessen output annually is made available to the Draconis Combine.

UZL-8S UZIEL

Mass: 50 tons
Chassis: Foundation E50 Endo Steel
Power Plant: Magna 250 XL
Cruising Speed: 54 kph
Maximum Speed: 86 kph
Jump Jets: Rawlings 65+
Jump Capacity: 240 meters
Armor: Maximillian 100
Armament: 1 Harvester Improved 20K Streak SRM 6
4 Defiance P5M Medium Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: Defiance Industries
Primary Factory: Furillo
Communications System: Neil 6000-g
Targeting & Tracking System: RCA Instatrac Mark XXII

With Coventry, Hesperus II, and Tharkad all under enemy control, it fell to Defiance’s satellite manufacturing center on Furillo to serve as primary arms supplier to the embattled LCAF. Unfortunately, what Furillo manufactured wasn’t always what the LCAF desired. The Uziel, designed for high-speed skirmishing and reconnaissance, wasn’t the sort of BattleMech Lyran Officers were clamoring for, but horrific losses forced them to accept what they could get. By 3071, the more combat-capable UZL-2S had eclipsed the UZL-3S as the most common version rolling off the production lines, but Defiance engineers continued to look for ways to improve on the Uziel and make it more than a stop-gap general-combat unit.
Inspired by footage of a DCMS Venom defeating a Legacy by repeatedly leaping behind it, designers switched to a smaller power plant. This allowed Defiance to install more advanced jump jets, boosting the Uziel’s leaping abilities. The Uziel’s armament was altered to match as well, carrying four pulse lasers like the Venom and a six-tube SRM rack, guided with Streak technology. Christened the UZL-8S, reception for the new design amongst the LCAF was lukewarm. Despite stellar performance during the invasion of the Blake Protectorate, the UZL-2S remains the most popular variant in the LCAF, although this new model is appearing in increasing numbers in the AFFS, RAF, Free Worlds, and mercenary

CNS-TD9 CRONUS

Mass: 55 tons
Chassis: Earthwerks SHD II Endo Steel
Power Plant: VOX 330 XL
Cruising Speed: 64 kph
Maximum Speed: 97 kph, 129 kph with MASC
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Krupp Stealth
Armament: 3 Blankenburg Lite Small Variable-Speed Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: Gilmour MilTech
Primary Factory: Talitha
Communications System: Cipher ComSys 1-W with C3i Computer and Guardian ECM Suite
Targeting & Tracking System: RCA Instatrac Mark XII with Targeting Computer

The thought of many of the Word of Blake’s advanced weapons inspires a sense of dread and awe, but for every machine of terror like the clawed Legacy, there were underwhelming and flawed predecessors. Amongst the ranks of the Celestial OmniMechs and Machina Domini are such bizarre, failed designs as the CNS-TD9 Cronus.
A proof of concept for a lightly armed, dedicated brawler utilizing claws as main weaponry, development was outsourced to the small-time salvage and repair firm Gilmour MilTech. Whether due to the limitations of Gilmour’s fabrication capabilities or a lack of direct Word guidance, the resulting ’Mech was an eclectic mish-mash of self-defeating technologies. The easy to modify Cronus chassis turned out to be a poor test-bed as its “FrankenMech” origins made integrating more advanced technologies extremely difficult. The stealth armor installed was ineffective at brawling ranges and too thin to withstand much punishment, while interfering with the ’Mech’s improved C3 node. The very limited range of the variable speed pulse lasers was compounded by not being able to fire while engaged in melee. The small cockpit may have been satisfactory for a Manei Domini to use, but it generally impeded piloting performance crucial in close combat.
The program was considered a disaster and production was reverted to the stock Cronus after numerous, costly losses in the field. A creative use of new technology, the CNS-TD9 failed to deliver the melee-range C³ spotter the Blakists desired. Miraculously, the Word didn’t abandon the idea of a claw-armed BattleMech to spot for a C³i network, ultimately producing the LGC-04WVR Legacy.

LGH-7W LIGHTRAY

Mass: 55 tons
Chassis: Geometric 33B Endo Steel
Power Plant: LTV 385 XL
Cruising Speed: 75 kph
Maximum Speed: 118 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Strasbourg Armaments Type 4 Ferro-Fibrous
Armament: 1 Donal Snub-Nose Particle Projection Cannon
2 Holly MML-3 Launchers
1 Diverse Optics Extended Range Medium Laser
Manufacturer: Martinson Armaments
Primary Factory: Australia, Terra (production discontinued in 3078)
Communications System: Blow 107 Net (Improved) with C3i Computer
Targeting & Tracking System: Scope 3580

The Lightray was a particularly powerful and fast Word of Blake medium ’Mech. Following its successful debut, the Lightray appeared in a myriad of subtle variants, all which maintained the same key structural components. While it was initially assumed that earlier variants were phased out for later ones, Blakist-era records recovered after the liberation of Terra indicate all models were being manufactured concurrently. As there were next to no cosmetic changes between variants, forces facing the Lightray could never be sure of its exact abilities beyond the general mixture of speed, resilience and extreme accuracy.
Coalition forces fighting on the last few worlds of the Blake Protectorate faced a final iteration of the Lightray, most notably observed supporting Omega superheavy ’Mechs at the battle of Cairo. Combining the capabilities of several prior variants, these Lightrays destroyed Coalition conventional forces with waves of inferno missiles while simultaneously assisting the Omegas’ targeting. Rushing across the sand at lightning speed, it engaged Coalition forces at various ranges, firing long range missiles before closing to unleash a truly deadly barrage at point blank.
Only after post-battle examination of salvage did it become clear that the secret to the LGH-7W was an XL gyro upgrade. This enabled the unit to retain its C3i module while swapping the torso lasers for small multi missile launchers and replacing the ER PPC with a snub-nosed version.

AGS-5D ARGUS

Mass: 60 tons
Chassis: 1A Type 12 Endo Steel
Power Plant: GM 300 XL
Cruising Speed: 54 kph
Maximum Speed: 86 kph, 108 kph with MASC
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Strasbourg Valiant Ringmail Light Ferro-Fibrous
Armament: 1 Magna Hellfire Heavy Particle Projection Cannon
2 Martell Medium Lasers
2 Harpoon-6s Streak Short-Range Missile Launchers
Manufacturer: Robinson Standard BattleWorks
Primary Factory: Robinson
Communications System: Achernar Electronics HID-8.7 with C³ Slave Unit
Targeting & Tracking System: Federated Hunter Mk.XX with Targeting Module

Since its introduction, the Argus has become one of the primary heavy cavalry BattleMechs of the AFFS. Beloved by MechWarriors for its high performance, it is the darling of technicians and procurement officers for the ease with which it can be repaired and modified. The Argus’s origins as an OmniMech design has also made it extremely easy for Robinson Standard BattleWorks to manufacture a plethora of configurations, finishing the base chassis to fill a variety of roles.
Amongst the newer variants, the most common is the AGS-5D. A close-assault unit, the 5D uses standard medium lasers in place of the extended-range Bright-Blooms, and mounts paired streak missile racks. The remaining armament and active probe of the 4D are dropped in favor of a heavy PPC, but the advanced targeting system is retained, and the addition of MASC allows the AGS-5D to close rapidly with the enemy. As a final touch, a C³ slave allows this Argus to help coordinate the fire of lance-mates further afield. Other Argus configurations include the AGS-6F, with a more durable fusion engine and a large-bore autocannon for using special munitions, and the less common AGS-8DX, a modified AGS-4D with a boosted C³ system.

NJT-4 NINJA-TO

Mass: 65 tons
Chassis: 1A Star League XT Light Endo Steel
Power Plant: Magna 390 XL
Cruising Speed: 65 kph
Maximum Speed: 97 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: New Samarkand Royal Ferro-Fibrous
Armament: 2 Lord’s Light 5 Snub-Nose Particle Projection Cannons
2 Diverse Optics 20X Extended Range Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: Luthien Armor Works and Independence Weaponry
Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Garret T-19G with C³ Slave Unit
Targeting & Tracking System: Matabushi Sniper with Targeting Module

The Blakists’ capture of Quentin was nearly as crippling to the Combine’s military industrial complex as the destruction of LAW’s Luthien plant. With Independence Weaponry’s primary factory occupied, components from third-party suppliers were stockpiled at numerous spare parts depots. These large caches helped keep a number of the DCMS’s most advanced BattleMechs in the field through the Jihad, but despite this effort, the number of Independence-built designs in Combine forces has steadily decreased. Mysteriously, this has not proved the case for the Ninja-to.
Not only has the percentage of Ninja-tos in the DCMS remained steady since 3070, but a new configuration has appeared utilizing Lord’s Light 5 particle cannons, directed by an advanced tracking system more commonly seen on Davion units. Although not publicly confirmed, it is suspected that Independence cut a deal with LAW allowing the assembly of Ninja-tos aboard the Yamato, making use of large part overruns. What is known is that the LAW mobile factory has taken delivery of traditional Ninja-to components not associated with any known LAW design. At this time, it is unknown if LAW is capable of constructing new chassis, or if they are just remanufacturing battle-damaged Ninja-tos using mostly new parts.

VR6-C VERFOLGER

Mass: 65 tons
Chassis: AR-6b Endo Steel
Power Plant: VOX 325 XL
Cruising Speed: 54 kph
Maximum Speed: 86 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: New Royal-7 Standard with CASE
Armament: 1 Energizer Extended Range Particle Projection Cannon
2 Devastator Selectable 9 Tube Multi-Missile Launchers
3 RAMTech 1500Z Extended Range Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: Arc-Royal MechWorks
Primary Factory: Arc-Royal
Communications System: K9 Comms System
Targeting & Tracking System: Type V Bloodhound T&T System

Damaged during the Word of Blake's assault in 3072, Arc-Royal MechWorks was no longer able to produce a full Verfolger but was still capable of refits. Debuting in late 3072, the Verfolger VR6-C drops the Mydron LB 10-X and anti-missile system and replaces them with a pair of Devastator MML-9 launchers. Generously supplied with four tons of ammunition—split across twin CASE-protected bays—the MML launchers give the VR6-C tremendous flexibility. The medium lasers were also swapped out for extended-range versions. While the weaponry gives the VR6-C an extended reach it does come at a price; the Verfolger's once easy heat curve is now far more difficult to handle.
The Verfolger line was rebuilt in 3082 utilizing parts from the discontinued Battle Cobra line, enabling the production of a new variant. The VR6-T replaced the weaponry entirely with an all-energy based array tied into a targeting computer. The primary weaponry consists of a Hound’s-tooth Snub-Nose PPC in the left torso and a TharHes Thunderbolt 12 large pulse laser in the right arm. These are backed up with a center torso-mounted Defiance P5M medium pulse laser and a RAMTech 1500Z ER medium laser in the right torso. Though now featuring far shorter ranged weapons, the VR6-T makes up for this by equipping the ’Mech with a 150-meter jump capacity, greatly increasing its mobility and allowing it to use its weaponry effectively. Finally, the VR6-T adds an extra double heatsink to help manage the increased heat burden.

NDA-3S NO-DACHI

Mass: 70 tons
Chassis: Foundation CMRFa7
Power Plant: Magna 350 XL
Cruising Speed: 54 kph, 65 kph with TSM
Maximum Speed: 86 kph, 97 kph with TSM
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Starshield A
Armament: 2 Diverse Optics Type 27V Variable Speed Pulse Lasers
2 Diverse Optics Type 20X Extended Range Medium Lasers
3 Victory Heartbeat Medium Pulse Lasers
1 Victory Throb Small Pulse Laser
3 Diverse Optics Type 10 Small Lasers
Manufacturer: Crosby BattleMech Research Firm
Primary Factory: Kajikazawa
Communications System: Garret T11-A with Guardian ECM Suite
Targeting & Tracking System: Garret D5j

The first BattleMech designed and constructed for using triple-strength myomers in conjunction with a melee weapon, the No-Dachi has been a constantly evolving machine. At first, a limited array of weapons made maintaining the heat level at the razor-edge point where TSM gave the greatest advantage was shown to be difficult. A wider selection of lasers made this task easier but any damage to the shielding or heat exchange system could result in detonation of the ammunition, as could extreme temperatures or inferno attacks. The most recent 2KO and 2KC versions have served the Combine well for decades.
Now helping the Dragon in a different way, the latest model, the 3S adds money to the economy while filling out the ranks of Kurita’s long-time enemies, the Lyrans. The large pulse laser was removed in favor of two medium variable speed pulse lasers. The rear-mounted extended range lasers were turned around to give the ’Mech some reach while the centerline weapons were replaced with an ECM system. Finally two of the medium pulse lasers were replaced with small lasers, identical to the one above the cockpit, freeing up space to replace the accurate sword with a devastating mace. The first shipment has gone to the Royal Guards and the Donegal Guards.

WHF-4C WHITE FLAME

Mass: 70 tons
Chassis: Dennenbach-Mitchell Series 9 Endo Steel
Power Plant: Magna 350 Light
Cruising Speed: 54 kph
Maximum Speed: 86 kph
Jump Jets: Rawlings 60
Jump Capacity: 150 meters
Armor: StarSlab/3
Armament: 1 Fusigon Smarttooth Snub Nose Particle Projection Cannon
2 Tronel XII Medium Pulse Lasers
2 Diverse Optics Extended Range Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: Mitchell Vehicles
Primary Factory: North America, Terra
Communications System: Dornman Echo IV with C3i Computer
Targeting & Tracking System: Wayne SuperSight with Diverse Optics TAG

A highly-mobile heavy ’Mech, the White Flame was always able to get into the fight, but once it got there its pilots often found to their sorrow that they hadn’t brought much along for the ride. Employed in strength within several Shadow Divisions, particularly the dedicated raiders of the 41st, 46th, and 48th, the -4C appears to have been an attempt to address that flaw, but its success was questionable at best.
With the heart of the beast—its massive 350 Magna Light engine—left in place, there wasn’t a lot of room for offensive improvements without eliminating one of the White Flame’s greatest strengths: its heavy armor. As its designers appeared unwilling to take such a step, token modifications had to suffice. The large pulse laser was replaced by a snub-nosed PPC, well-suited to a machine as mobile as this. The anti-missile system was tossed, with TAG and an additional medium pulse laser installed instead.
Typical employment saw the -4C race into close range, relying on its thick armor and high speed to avoid damage. Keeping the enemy occupied, it provided targeting data for its squadmates and distant artillery units both, allowing the Word’s harasser and sniper units free reign.

LHU-4E Lao Hu

Mass: 75 tons
Chassis: Chariot Type II Endo Steel
Power Plant: GM 375 XL
Cruising Speed: 54 kph
Maximum Speed: 86 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Ceres Heavy Stealth
Armament: 1 Ceres Arms Eradicator Heavy Particle Projection Cannon
1 Zhi-Tong-Yao Gauss Rifle
3 Death Blossom 10 Pack Rocket Launchers
Manufacturer: Shengli Arms
Primary Factory: Victoria
Communications System: Dian-bao Comms, Heavily Insulated with ECM Suite
Targeting & Tracking System: O/P 911

Originally designed to improve upon the Thunder, the Lao Hu has ironically only remained in production thanks to the assistance of Ceres Metals. When Shengli Arms’ subterranean factory was partially collapsed by rogue mercenaries, Ceres stepped in, providing capital, expertise, and components that allowed production to be restored. Having upgraded their Thunder design in the interim to eclipse the close-range capabilities of the Lao Hu, Ceres used their influence to push the production of variants that were complimentary, not competitive, with their staple design.
Shengli, beholden to Ceres for continued financial support, first adopted for production a rotary AC refit developed during Operation: CELESTIAL VENGEANCE, making use of new local component production. More recently, Shengli and Ceres co-designed the stealth-armored LHU-4E. A stunning upgrade of Shengli’s LHU-3C, the new design utilizes a smaller cockpit and an extra-light gyro to allow the Lao Hu to carry Ceres’ new heavy PPC. With both the HPPC and the Gauss rifle capable of shearing through nearly a ton of standard armor with a single shot, the Lao Hu’s ranged combat capabilities are now even more formidable, while the ’Mech’s heat dissipation was improved to allow both weapons to be fired with stealth systems engaged.

Fighting to liberate Kalidasa from Blakist domination in 3077 inflicted significant damage on Kali Yama’s manufacturing plant. While many of the components the Perseus shares with the Orion remain in production, the fabrication equipment for the adaptive OmniLink interface was destroyed. It is well within Kali Yama’s capabilities to rebuild the facilities to restore production, but thus far the Republic government has actively discouraged the company from doing so, instead purchasing the less flexible Orion and encouraging conversion to WorkMech production with subsidies.
It’s little surprise that the majority of surviving examples of the Perseus are in the hands of the RAF or former Blakist allies, such as the AMSC. The WoBM operated a configuration utilizing their improved C³ system, armed with both a massive autocannon for short-range combat and a Gauss rifle for supporting the rest of the Level II at a distance. Today, one of the most common configurations is the P1P, a flexible mid-range combat platform. Deliberately designed to avoid over-taxing the Perseus’s limited cooling systems, the P1P carries a single particle cannon along with the rotary autocannon which has become increasingly popular amongst Marik forces. Target Acquisition Gear allows the Perseus’s lancemates to support it with semi-guided LRMs, while a bevy of smaller lasers and missile racks complete the weapons load.
Significantly rarer is the P1E configuration. Intended for use by battalion commanders, the P1E is equipped with significant sensor and communication systems. No expense is spared on its armament, which was designed to be equally effective against all types of opponents, from ’Mechs to infantry to aerospace fighters.

TNS-4T THANATOS

Mass: 75 tons
Chassis: StarFrame Heavy Endo
Power Plant: Vlar 300 XL
Cruising Speed: 43 kph
Maximum Speed: 65 kph
Jump Jets: Audi-Fokker Mark IV
Jump Capacity: 120 meters
Armor: Durallex Heavy
Armament: 1 Defiance Disintegrator LB-20X Autocannon
1 Shigunga MRM-20 Launcher
4 RAMTech 800P Medium Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: StarCorps Industries
Primary Factory: Crofton, Loburg
Communications System: T-60 Fastscan with C3 Slave and Guardian ECM Suite
Targeting & Tracking System: Garret F22c

Often seen as an over-sized medium ’Mech, because of the inaccuracy of the missile system and the relatively short range of the lasers, the Thanatos is none-the-less heavily used as a heavy spotter for the increasingly more common Davion and Steiner C3 lances. StarCorps reworked their design to increase sales, a job made much easier due to the Thanatos's OmniMech beginnings. Both variants slow it down to free up tonnage for more firepower. The 4T model, of which prototypes appeared during the FedCom Civil War, focuses on infighting, keeping the missile system and replacing the lasers with quad medium pulse lasers and a massive multi-mode LB-X autocannon.
The more recent TNS-6S retains some mobility by way of six improved jump jets and retains a heavy-hitting energy weapon, though it uses a heavy particle cannon instead of an extended range large laser. Also providing long range firepower are three five-tube missile launchers, reminiscent of the LHU-3C Lao Hu. For infighting there are four lasers, causing many in the LCAF to grumble about a continued lack of firepower for this new design. Despite improvements, these Thanatos variants fail to achieve a desired blend of speed, range and firepower, leaving it flawed in the eyes of many.

LGC-04-WVR LEGACY

Mass: 80 tons
Chassis: Skobel Template 8 Endo Steel
Power Plant: Pitban 320 Light
Cruising Speed: 43 kph
Maximum Speed: 64 kph, 86 kph with MASC
Jump Jets: CurtissJet 80
Jump Capacity: 120 meters
Armor: Krupp 205 Light Ferro-Fibrous
Armament: 2 Donal Snub-Nose Particle Projection Cannons
Manufacturer: Skobel MechWorks
Primary Factory: Russia, Terra
Communications System: Skobel Wave VII Comm with C3i Computer
Targeting & Tracking System: Falcon 15 Watcher

When a new Legacy appeared among the ranks of the 50th Shadow Division, it quickly was revealed as the stuff of nightmares. Charging into the ranks of enemies with huge outstretched claws, continuously spotting for their C³i network while ripping off the heads of opposing ’Mechs with wanton abandon, it seemed more beast than machine. During battles in the Lyran Alliance and along the Lyran-Free Worlds border in 3073-74, the LGC-04-WVR wrought massive disarray.
With a faster basic speed than the original Legacy, the new model seemed to be an outgrowth of the -03 series, even mirroring the PPC main armament. Unlike its predecessor, this special shock unit did not mount any other ranged weaponry, instead relying on gigantic dual claws to not only crush, but terrorize the enemy. While this resulted in an assault ’Mech with anemic weaponry, it functioned brutally efficiently both as a headhunter and as a super-heavy C3i spotter.
In the last half-decade of the Jihad, the Protectorate Militia fielded a final Legacy. Built around a compact engine, the LGC-05 actually represented a separate branch of the design family. Visually similar to the LGC-02, it stressed flexibility and resilience over mobility and heavy punch. Paired MML-7s, light PPCs, and variable pulse lasers made the LGC-05 a threat at all ranges, albeit a less menacing one.

TLR1-OD TEMPLAR

Mass: 85 tons
Chassis: Kallon Type XIX Endo Steel
Power Plant: Kal-Tek 340 XL
Cruising Speed: 43 kph
Maximum Speed: 64 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Starshield A with CASE
Armament: 40 tons of pod space available
Manufacturer: Kallon Weapon Industries
Primary Factory: Talon (destroyed 3069)
Communications System: Telescan 17
Targeting & Tracking System: Spar 3C MegaTrak

Although the factory was destroyed in 3069, the Templar remains the sole Federated Suns-designed OmniMech and its popularity has not been diminished by the increasing difficulty of acquiring spare parts. During the Civil War and the Jihad, a number of new configurations were developed, most of them leveraging C3 technology for improved performance. Notably, none of the C3 configurations are optimized for the dangerous role of close spotter.
The rare, experimental D configuration uses a pair of light Gauss rifles and two large X-pulse lasers to provide fire at extended ranges and highly accurate fire at medium ranges. Used in a number of field trials, it has only rarely been seen since.
Two C3 master computer configurations were developed. The older E configuration from the Civil War is similar to the Naginata, with an ER PPC and two LRM 15s, although ECM and two pulse lasers make it more able to take care of itself at short range. The jump jet-equipped Templar F supplies direct fire support with a heavy PPC and light Gauss rifle while four medium lasers (three pulse, one ER) provide short range firepower.
The Templar G, H, and I configurations have C3 slaves. The G has a trio of LB 2-Xs, a light Gauss rifle, and an ER PPC to take advantage of targeting data. The H configuration has two light PPCs and an ER flamer tied into a targeting computer but the primary firepower comes from two MRM 30 racks with “Apollo” fire control systems. Like the Templar F, the Templar H has 120 meters of jump capability. The I configuration matches the Thunder Hawk for firepower, carrying two heavy PPCs and a Gauss rifle, making it a deadly combatant at range and especially as part of a C3 network. Minimum ranges on its weaponry forces the configuration to rely on the Templar's armored feet for point-blank defense.

AKU-2X AKUMA

Mass: 90 tons
Chassis: Foundation AKU Endo Steel
Power Plant: GM 270
Cruising Speed: 32 kph
Maximum Speed: 54 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Durallex Special Heavy
Armament: 1 Lord’s Light 3 Heavy Particle Projection Cannon
1 Shigunga Medium Range Missile 40-Pack with Apollo FCS
1 Imperator Code Red LB 10-X Autocannon
1 Victory Heartbeat Medium Pulse Laser
Manufacturer: Independence Weaponry
Primary Factory: New Samarkand
Communications System: Sipher Security Plus with C3 Slave Unit
Targeting & Tracking System: Matabushi Sentinel

The Akuma is one of the most iconic Kurita assault ’Mechs, but its initial reception among the elite units of the DCMS was lukewarm. Its utilitarian construction did not make for the cutting edge ride desired by an up-and-coming Sword of Light MechWarrior. This image problem was exacerbated by vulnerable ammunition bins that jeopardized the Akuma’s otherwise outstanding resilience. The jumping AKU-1XJ, which excited attention during the FedCom Civil War, shared this structural problem, relegating the Akuma to a role of also-ran amongst Mechwarriors, despite being highly publicized by the Combine media.
When Quentin fell to the Word of Blake in 3070, Independence Weaponry chose not to discard the Akuma, instead initiating a refit program at its small facility on New Samarkand. With true resilience the ultimate goal, a compact gyro was utilized and the ammunition protected with CASE. At the same time, a C³ slave was tied to the communications system, and its weaponry consolidated for a concentrated punch. Although pilots would have to grow accustomed to only wielding four weapons, the new heavy PPC and giant MRM launcher with Apollo FCS, combined with the pre-existing LB-X autocannon and pulse laser, provided for an impressive increase in firepower at medium ranges.
The AKU-2X was a huge success, finally bringing the unit’s capabilities on par with its image. At the tail end of the Jihad, Independence began hand-building a limited number of new Akuma chassis at their New Samarkand location, taking the opportunity to introduce a new variant inspired by the Davion’s new Atlas configuration. These AKU-2XK centered on an Imperator Rotary AC/5 and two large MML racks, compensating for the AKU-2X’s admittedly limited versatility.

SGT-10X SAGITTAIRE

Mass: 95 tons
Chassis: Skuel Heavy TRQ
Power Plant: Pitban 285 Light
Cruising Speed: 32 kph
Maximum Speed: 54 kph
Jump Jets: McCloud Specials (Reinforced)
Jump Capacity: 150 meters
Armor: Starshield Special Heavy
Armament: 2 Johnston Lite Light Particle Projection Cannons
4 Exostar Illuminator Medium Variable-Speed Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: Robinson Standard BattleWorks
Primary Factory: Robinson
Communications System: Sony MSF-31
Targeting & Tracking System: Federated Stalker with Targeting Module

Initially heralded as an example of superior Federated Suns weapon design, the Sagittaire depreciated in value during the Jihad. In an open-field engagement, the Sagittaire’s short-range weaponry and slow ground speed were a liability, and the AFFS soon found that the Word of Blake was just as likely to level a city with artillery as fight over it. Rather than field a ’Mech many felt was an expensive target, a number of regiments converted their Sagittaires to a autocannon-wielding C³ master configuration developed by Third Crucis Lancers technician Edward McUlster.
Blakist forces obliterated the assembly line that supplied the Sagittaire’s unusual power plant, but demand remains for the design amongst units specializing in urban combat. Recently, Robinson Standard BattleWorks has constructed a handful of prototypes utilizing light fusion engines salvaged from Blakist Puma tanks. Designed as a pinnacle of modern technology, these prototypes mount a battery of variable-speed pulse lasers and improved jump jets which give the SGT-10X the cross-country mobility of a medium ’Mech. If AFFS field tests prove favorable, RSB is hoping to convert their Ostsol line over to Sagittaire manufacturing, as demand for the former design has dropped steadily.

FNR-6U FAFNIR

Mass: 100 tons
Chassis: Foundation Type 220
Power Plant: Defiance 300 Light
Cruising Speed: 32 kph
Maximum Speed: 54 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Durallex Guardian II Light Ferro-Fibrous with CASE
Armament: 2 Defiance Thunder Ultra Class 20 Autocannons
4 Defiance 1002 Light Particle Projection Cannons
Manufacturer: Defiance Industries
Primary Factory: Hesperus II
Communications System: Angst Discom
Targeting & Tracking System: Angst Accuracy

The Fafnir is an icon of Lyran “bigger is better” design philosophy. To many quarters of the LCAF, it is the ultimate expression of House Steiner’s military might and an indispensable assault BattleMech design.
The Word of Blake Militia failed to share the Lyrans’ high regard for the Fafnir. Upon seizing control of Defiance Industries, the Blakists sought to minimize the weaknesses of what they saw as a hyper-specialized BattleMech prone to internal explosions. Fitted with a quad-battery of plasma rifles in place of the heavy Gauss weapons, these FNR-5WBs were used to slag their own assembly lines as the Lyrans retook Hesperus II.
The LCAF procurement culture that gave the Inner Sphere Thomas Hogarth refused to accept such a state of affairs, however, and Defiance Industries was ordered to restore production of the Fafnir at any cost. With the entire assembly mechanism melted to scrap, Defiance was forced to cannibalize much of the Goliath’s fabrication machinery in order to resurrect the Fafnir. In addition to producing models with improved heavy Gauss rifles, Defiance has introduced a radical urban combat variant to broaden the ’Mech’s appeal.
Equipped with dual large-bore Ultra autocannons, the FNR-6U is still “large and in charge”. The placement of these weapons in the BattleMech’s arms instead of the torso and the use of a lighter, bulkier power plant has resulted in a drastic redesign of the ’Mech’s upper body, making the FNR-6U instantly recognizable.

VQR-7U VANQUISHER

Mass: 100 tons
Chassis: Hollis Alteration Mark VI
Power Plant: Vlar 300 Compact
Cruising Speed: 32 kph, 43 kph with TSM
Maximum Speed: 54 kph, 64 kph with TSM
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Aldis Plate
Armament: 2 Ceres Arms Crusher Plasma Rifles
1 Donal Snub-Nose Particle Projection Cannon
1 Purity-H Series Heavy Flamer
2 Purity-E Series ER Flamers
4 2 Blankenburg Lite Small Variable Speed Pulse Lasers
Manufacturer: Skobel MechWorks
Primary Factory: Russia, Terra
Communications System: Skobel Wave VI Comm MOD with C3i Computer and Beagle Active Probe
Targeting & Tracking System: Falcon 12b Watcher

The Vanquisher was conceived as a heavy fire support unit for C³i networks when that technology first became available. Since that time, almost all variants have conformed to this role, such as the AS7-S2 inspired VQR-5V of the late 3060s. Propelled by a compact engine and utilizing a heavy-duty gyro, this application of the latest power plant options would be continued in the ultimate Vanquisher variants.
The 7-series arrived in two wildly different variants. The -7V was a brutal ’Mech featuring rotary autocannons and various PPCs, retaining the HD gyro of its predecessor. The VQR-7U was more insidious. Featuring plasma rifles, a snub nose PPC and various flamers, this Vanquisher took on a completely unorthodox role and turned normal C3 doctrine on its head. Carrying an active probe and remote sensor dispenser, the VQR-7U was a super-heavy point unit for urban operations. Despite its slow speed, it could cover large areas with sensors that could be simultaneously monitored by its entire C³i network, while driving infantry and conventional forces before it with incendiary weapons. Conversely, the Vanquisher was nearly immune to heat-inducing weaponry which at worst would trigger its triple-strength myomers.
Coalition forces landing on Protectorate Worlds discovered that Level IIs anchored by a VQR-7U in an urban environment acted as a powerful force multiplier. Significantly larger numbers than expected were required to overpower these formations during the assault on Terra. As was surmised by the use of small cockpits in the 7-series, the latest Vanquishers were widely used by Manei Domini. The Vanquishers of the 51st Shadow Division took a terrible toll on Com Guard Sixth Army forces trying to dislodge them from Geneva.

SOLITAIRE 2

Mass: 25 tons
Chassis: Alpha Primary Endo Steel
Power Plant: Model SF-250 (XL)
Cruising Speed: 108 kph
Maximum Speed: 162 kph, 216 kph with MASC
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Forging FF01 Ferro Fibrous
Armament: 1 Model X Heavy Large Laser
1 Model V Heavy Medium Laser
1 Model II Heavy Small Laser
Manufacturer: Refit
Primary Factory: Various
Communications System: S9R Beta Series Communications
Targeting & Tracking System: Gamma-Five Sensor Package

The Diamond Sharks have fared well with their unconventional Solitaire. This non-Omni BattleMech was at first derided as a second-line machine and of little use to a Clan touman. Its critics quickly found out how right and wrong they were. The inaccuracies of the heavy laser and their short range compounded the difficulty of their use, making a difficult shot even harder for exactly the type of less experienced pilots found in second-line clusters.
The Solitaire also relies heavily on speed and planning to be in the right place at the right time, another talent uncommon amongst younger Mechwarriors. With an experienced pilot, however, its speed can allow the Solitaire to slip behind the enemy, where the powerful lasers can tear through weaker armor with a well-placed shot. Such a blow can cripple or kill an enemy and can force their pilots to be conservative, working hard to keep their rear from being exposed and limiting their effectiveness in the battle at large.
Diamond Shark veterans have instituted a field modification to add even more speed to the design. By removing the center-line laser, technicians were able to install a MASC system, increasing the top speed by over thirty-three percent for short bursts. Opponents who thought they knew the limits of the Solitaire have found themselves dead before they knew what happened.

HELLION D

Mass: 30 tons
Chassis: Hellion Light Endo Steel V5
Power Plant: 210 XL
Cruising Speed: 75 kph
Maximum Speed: 118 kph, 151 kph with MASC
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Compound Gamma Ferro-Fibrous
Armament: 11.5 tons of pod space available
Manufacturer: Hector MechWorks Facility Alpha
Primary Factory: Hector (status unknown)
Communications System: HCFA 3035 3.0
Targeting & Tracking System: HCFA 3047 1.5

While Clan Ice Hellion has not been seen or heard of in the past decade, their Hellion OmniMech continues to faithfully serve in various Clans of the Inner Sphere. It is particularly common amongst the Diamond Shark, Jade Falcon and Hell’s Horses toumans and several new standardized configurations have been spotted in the past decades.
Configuration D saw common use in the early days of the Jihad and plays to the strengths of the chassis by featuring LRMs and lasers for a concentrated punch at all ranges. Both the Hell’s Horses and Jade Falcons later introduced configurations to support combined arms actions. The Horses’ configuration mounts jump jets and a battery of flamers and AP Gauss rifles, while the Falcon setup seeks a more balanced solution pairing an extended-range flamer with lasers for anti-armor work.
The Hellion is not being manufactured in the Inner Sphere at this point in time, though it is suspected both the Sharks and Horses acquired the manufacturing specs. As a truly versatile and fearsome OmniMech for its size, demand for the Hellion is expected to remain high. Operators in the Inner Sphere have gone to great lengths to keep the remaining examples in perfect operating condition.

SPIRIT 2

Mass: 35 tons
Chassis: Olivetti S1 Endo Steel
Power Plant: Magna 245c XL
Cruising Speed: 76 kph
Maximum Speed: 119 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Compound Alpha Ferro Fibrous
Armament: 1 Series 6b Extended Range Large Laser
1 Type 12 Advanced Tactical Missile-12 Rack
Manufacturer: Olivetti Weaponry
Primary Factory: Sudeten (refits only after 3073)
Communications System: Angst 2400
Targeting & Tracking System: Omicron XX with Targeting Computer

The Spirit was the first ’Mech produced by Olivetti for Clan Jade Falcon. Whereas the Pinion that followed was merely a placeholder to test the facility’s capacities, the Spirit was a hugely important symbol and a true asset to the touman. No other Clan has so aggressively used real combat to test young, uninitiated warriors as the Falcons: the Spirit was specifically created to supply these Eyrie units.
The Spirit is the most versatile second-line light ’Mech in the Falcon touman, capable of performing scouting, interdiction, support, and head-hunter missions with equal ease. As the skill of its pilots increased, so did their attachment to the ’Mech, in sharp contrast to most other second line machines. Some amongst the Clan even hold that the Spirit is the unsung hero of their forces.
Nevertheless, amongst the traditionalist Falcons second-line units are rarely accepted in front line clusters unless they can deliver overwhelming firepower, such as the infamous Hunchback IIC. Calls for a Spirit able to deliver more concentrated damage resulted in the Spirit 2. Retaining only the large laser, the remaining weaponry was dropped to upgrade the LRM launcher to a massive ATM-12 system. While in keeping with Falcon design philosophy, this does leave the Spirit 2 with the inherent vulnerability of a single well-placed shot destroying all the weaponry concentrated in the right side of the ’Mech.
The Spirit’s production lines were a victim of the turmoil of the Jihad. Sudeten is currently refitting existing chassis as it continues to rebuild. Commanders of Eyrie Clusters are clamoring for increased availability, but currently all of the Olivetti’s resources are invested in other products.

LOBO 2

Mass: 40 tons
Chassis: Type-A Endo Steel
Power Plant: General Systems 240 XL
Cruising Speed: 65 kph
Maximum Speed: 97 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Type-1 Ferro-Fibrous
Armament: 1 Kolibri Delta Series Large Pulse Laser
2 Series 2b Extended-Range Medium Lasers
2 Zeta-series X Plasma Cannons
2 Tau-II Anti-Personnel Gauss Rifles
Manufacturer: W-7 Facilities
Primary Factory: Tamar
Communications System: Howler 79
Targeting & Tracking System: Model 92 “Stalker”

The second coming of the Hell's Horses to the Inner Sphere involved a major offensive into the Clan Wolf OZ, taking a number of worlds and quickly cementing their status as a permanent resident. It also underscored the Wolves' limitations in answering combined-arms warfare of the style the Horses had traditionally practiced and that was a major component of the Word of Blake's modus operandi. The Lobo, which had proven itself in inter-Clan engagements, was modified to emphasize anti-infantry and anti-vehicle operations, providing a model for the later Night Wolf assault ’Mech. Two plasma cannons and a pair of anti-personnel Gauss rifles can devastate most infantry formations, and a trio of lasers, two medium ER and one large pulse model, provide a solid foundation for engaging other ’Mechs with judicious use of the plasma cannon's ability to wreak havoc with a target's internal temperatures. Few warriors like being assigned to a machine designed for such duties but the Lobo 2's ability to engage and cripple or destroy Horses' tanks has proven a potent deterrent.
Another variant has appeared recently, the Lobo 3. Designed around close-range fighting, the eight machine guns suffer from their limited range but can typically destroy entire platoons in seconds, particularly when supported by the design's twin anti-personnel Gauss rifles. The original ATM racks are replaced by two four-tube Streak launchers. An extended-range particle cannon and medium pulse laser provide armor penetration. This variant is still being tested but one report suggests a gruesome secondary purpose in the vein of the Falcons' Sokar.

While the Spirit is still truly ubiquitous for the Jade Falcons, its larger sibling the Pinion is not. The Pinion was originally designed to fulfill only two functions: to prove that Olivetti could handle multiple ClanTech manufacturing lines and to utilize a surplus stock of ProtoMech weaponry. By succeeding in both, it unfortunately also made itself redundant. Unlike the many production lines on Sudeten lost to internal Clan struggles during the Jihad, the Pinion was actually discontinued even before those conflicts began.
Whereas the Spirit was a carefully designed second-line ’Mech intended as a stepping stone for young warriors on the path to their first OmniMech, the Pinion was never slated for anything but solahma duties. In a Clan infamous for its solahma’s heavy use of the over-gunned Hunchback IIC design, it follows a certain logic that late production Pinions drop secondary weaponry to double the number of heavy lasers. These Pinion 3s are used in similar blitzkrieg maneuvers to rush and destroy targets up to twice their weight.
Even though this variant is arguably the most effective in a traditionalist sense, the irony was not lost on observers that the Pinion finished its production life bereft of its very raison d’être.

CRIMSON LANGUR D

Mass: 50 tons
Chassis: York XT
Power Plant: 305 XL
Cruising Speed: 76 kph
Maximum Speed: 119 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Beta J77
Armament: 15 tons of pod space available
Manufacturer: York Y2 Facility, Kindraa Mick-Kreese Primary Production Facility
Primary Factory: York, Atreus (current status unknown)
Communications System: York Y2-Com
Targeting & Tracking System: York Y5-T&T5

Whatever happened to the Clans has ceased any trade between the Homeworlds and the Inner Sphere. Prior to the end of relations, the Diamond Sharks acquired BattleMechs and scientists from the isolationist Clan Blood Spirit. Among these designs were some Crimson Langur OmniMechs, unusual among Spirit designs for the extralight engine that allowed it to pack a greater punch than a normal engine would. Most of the standard configurations have a large, long-ranged weapon with a supporting armament. Recently, the Sharks have begun using a configuration that is more of an in-fighter.
With all of the weapons in the arms, each sports a medium pulse laser, a pair of micro lasers and eight short range missile tubes. Jump jets have been added, giving the Crimson Langur a movement profile similar to the old Jenner. Topping off the configuration is an advanced targeting system and a light targeting acquisition system. This version has been a terror in urban terrain, allowing precision targeting of artillery without damaging the city itself. Clan Snow Raven has taken to doing something similar with their Crimson Langurs, creating an infighter with a trio of pulse lasers, eight SRMs and six smaller lasers, all confined to the torsos. An additional heat sink rounds out the configuration, allowing a brutal short ranged punch.

RABID COYOTE 2
Mass: 55 tons
Chassis: Medium Series MVV Endo Steel
Power Plant: Type 275 Standard Fusion
Cruising Speed: 54 kph
Maximum Speed: 86 kph
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: None
Armor: Compound CL-20 Ferro-Fibrous
Armament: 4 Series 7Ja Extended-Range Medium Lasers
6 Unknown model Advanced Tactical Missile 3-Rack
Manufacturer: Ashton ’Mech Production Complex
Primary Factory: Foster (current status unknown)
Communications System: TJ7 “Siren” ICS with ECM
Targeting & Tracking System: TRTTS Mark II-beta CWS

Produced in the aftermath of the fighting in 3060, the Rabid Coyote was apparently effective on the battlefield but its intended purpose as a lighter, swifter escort to designs like the Canis and Savage Coyote made it unpopular with traditionalist Coyote warriors. However, the design is almost unknown in the Inner Sphere with a handful in Clan Wolf colors and none known to be in service with any of the other Clans.
What intelligence is available to The Republic regarding a variant model comes mainly from sources in the Combine although a few scraps of confirming information that one exists has been obtained from interactions with Clan Diamond Shark. What is known suggests that the new model, while having similar jamming capabilities to the original, may have an active probe. Spectral analysis of laser emissions from one battlefield observation indicates that the lasers were replaced by extended-range models. Another report showed missiles firing from either shoulder rather than the single mount on the original; technicians and analysts suggest a 50% increase in missile payload. Whether this variant was a testbed of some kind or a production model is unknown.
